Toll Stations up on 754 and 813

The so-called "Toll Stations" remain up on Highway 754, near Wabasca and Highway 813, near Rock Island Lake.

The Bigstone Cree Nation put the stations up on Monday.

A letter was sent to Indigenous Relations Minister Richard Feehan on February 20, citing six reasons for the action.

They include "the abandonment of the local economy and local companies," along with a lack of meaningful consultation between the band and oil and gas companies and concerns around water protection.

In an e-mail, the Minister's office states they are in regular contact with the Bigstone Cree Nation to ensure safety of all involved.

Some traffic is being disrupted on those two highways, and industry traffic is being halted.
